In 1966, the society held its last display in the Community Hall to move into the arena. Now, in 2016, the fair has returned to its humble beginnings. “Change is something that we cannot always avoid,” said Kevin Holmes, fair board president. “However, we need to embrace change and consider it to be a new start, or hence, a new beginning.” The Fair runs Thursday through Sunday. Ride the rides for only $2 per ride Thursday, before the action is in full swing for the weekend. One of the highlights is the impressive Demolition Derby Friday evening, starting at 7:30 p.m. Competitors come from far and wide to see who lasts the longest in the pit. The weekend festivities get under way Saturday at 11 a.m. with the fair parade along Main Street, which makes it way into the fairgrounds. Opening ceremonies take place at noon at the main stage. Visitors can take in the fair farm and petting zoo, homecraft displays, Bavarian gardens and horse pull. A new fair ambassador will be chosen Saturday. Contestants will be introduced at 2, with the crowning of a new representative at roughly 4 p.m. Sunday, there's a garden tractor pull, with both stock and modified machines at 2 p.m. There's also a horseshoe pitch at noon Sunday, as well as a rabbit and cavy show. There are a host of family-friendly events running at the tennis courts, staring at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Prior to that is a mutt and pet show, also at the courts, starting at 11:30 a.m. The famous baby show takes place Sunday at 1 p.m. in the main tent. Admission ranges from $7 to $12 for adults and youth, and $3 to $5 for children aged five to 10. Parking is located at the Brownsville Junction Plaza and a shuttle bus will be provided  Saturday only.
