Talk of the Town by Mayor Allan Thompson — Mayor looking forward to an exciting April in townApril is an exciting month. The very first day of this month, we marked 100 days to the start of the Pan Am Games with a flag raising ceremony at Town Hall. I toured the facility in Palgrave recently and I'm proud to say that we are on time and under budget. I can't thank our staff and community partners enough for the tremendous work they are putting into making these games a success for Caledon. This is a significant time in our history, a time for us to show the world just how special Caledon is. April is also special because it's a time for us to recognize the efforts of the many extraordinary people who give the gift of their time and talents through volunteerism. Last month, I spent a few hours with Caledon Meals on Wheels and got to experience first-hand how meaningful this program is. I also participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Tim Horton's Bowl for Kids' Sake in support of programs for Children and Youth. These two organizations and hundreds more could not provide the vital services and programs they do for our community and residents without volunteers. So the next time you see a coach, a brownie leader, a senior services supporter, a volunteer driver or one of the many other people who give their time so generously for the betterment of us all, show them how much you appreciate them. Say thank you. On a final note, a reminder to be extra cautious on our roadways and in our residential areas as the warmer weather brings increased pedestrian traffic and children at play. Be safe and enjoy the spring season. |
