Sunshine list of local municipal employees keeps on growingBy Bill Rea The list keeps growing, when it comes to who the highest paid municipal employees are. The Province last week released the list of public sector employees who made $100,000 or more last year. The list, known by a number of names, including the Sunshine List, contained the names of 41 employees of the Town of Caledon. The was up from the 31 who made the list a year ago, which had been down from the 36 who were on the 2012 list. The highest paid employee at the Town was Chief Administrative Officer Douglas Barnes, who collected a salary of $228,357.30, plus $1,560.2 in benefits. Other making the list at the Town were Firefighter First Class Dennis Anselmi, who made $104,404.56, plus $683.19 in benefits; Deputy Fire Chief Darryl Bailey, who got $126,483.75, plus $2,469.46; Manager of Parks and Landscape Architect Brian Baird, who earned $114,137.91, plus $807.84; Firefighter First Class Colin Berry, who was paid $106,056.58, plus $758.10; Manager of Development Catherine Blakely, who collected $105,404.08, plus $745.23; Senior Bylaw Officer Glenn Blakely, who took in $104,810.06, plus $725.71; Firefighter First Class Daryl Bond, who received $105,045.86, plus $653.18; Public Education Officer Gillian Boyd, who made $108,329.20, plus $1,142.32; Fire Captain and Training Officer C. Andrew Boys, who got $107,718.13, plus $3,974.21; Regulatory Services Manager Leo Butko, who earned $102.336, plus $725.71; Information Technology Manager K. The number of Peel Region employees making the list grew from 468 to 672. The top money earner at the Region was Medical Officer of Health David Mowat, who came in at $302,052.30, plus $12,735.08 in benefits. Joining him at the top of the list at the Region were Acting Medical Officer of Health Eileen De Villa, who made $222,844.53, plus $1,349.40; Director of Real Property Asset Management Steve Hall, who got $207,947.14, plus $882.03; Regional Chair Emil Kolb, who earned $181,394.42, plus $7,650.68 for the approximately 11 months he was on the job; Commissioner of Public Works Daniel Labrecque, who was paid $229,759.75, plus $16,126.97; Commissioner of Human Services Janet Menard, who collected $221,806.17, plus $14,201.21; Director of Legal Services and Regional Solicitor Patrick O'Connor, who took in $190,772.06, plus $901.68; Executive Director of Water and Wastewater Mark Schiller, who received $192,157.46, plus $897.06; Commissioner of Health Janette Smith, who made $221,806.18, $17,056.83; Chief Administrative Officer David Szwarc, who got $273,735.65, plus $24,120.52; Commissioner of Finance and Chief Financial Officer Stephen Van Ofwegen, who earned $185,369.47, plus $2,739.97; and Associate Medical Officer of Health Megan Ward, who was paid $217,251.91, plus $1,357.32. The list also grew at the Peel District School Board, although not by much. There were 842 employees making it to the 2014 list, as opposed to 821 in ‘13. There were two employees who passed the $200,000 mark. Director of Education Tony Pontes made $249,311.50, plus $14,604.71; and Associate Director of Instructional Support Services Scott Moreash, who received $207,412.18, $6,867.55. The list was a bit shorter at the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, with 604 employees making it, down from 636 last year. Director John Kostoff was at the top of the list with a salary of $255,734.49, plus $10,021.37 in benefits, followed by Associate Director Sheila McWatters, who made $200,278.06, plus $816.91. There was only one representative from Caledon Community Services who made the list, and that was CEO Monty Laskin. He made $155,119.48, plus $7,418.43 in benefits. |
