Subway Athletes of the Week — February 13, 2014
Mayfield Secondary School Jared Shaw This 16-year-old has been active in nordic skiing, placing sixth in two meets, as the team has been consistently placing in the top three. He took part in cross-country running in the fall, and also plays baseball at school, playing centre field and sometimes second base. Away from school, he plays centre in the Orangeville Flyers organization as well as baseball with the Bolton Braves. The Grade 11 student lives in the Belfountain area with his parents John Shaw and Karen Gardiner.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Jordan Kreller The Grade 11 student has been making his contribution as a defenceman on the school's undefeated varsity hockey team. Away from school, he plays AAA hockey in the Don Mills Flyers organization. This hockey fan also said the Canadian men have a “great” chance in the coming Olympic competition. The 16-year-old lives in Caledon East with his parents Laurie and Doug Kreller.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Monika Sliwocki This 15-year-old has been making her contribution playing centre for the junior girls' volleyball team which has been doing well this season. Away from school, she enjoys playing forward in house league soccer in the Bolton Wanderers' organization, and she also like to run. The Grade 10 student lives in Bolton with her parents Cindy and Rob Sliwocki.
Humberview Secondary School Matthew Niedoba The Grade 11 student has been showing his prowess as a downhill skier, placing first in his division and getting ready for ROPSSAA. When he's not skiing for the school, he's involved in recreational karate. The 16-year-old lives in Bolton with his parents Joe and Janet Niedoba.
