Subway Athletes of the Week — April 17, 2014
Mayfield Secondary School Amarije Barnes This Grade 11 student is a prop on the senior girls' rugby team, and she was part of the junior team that recently completed a tour of Scotland. The senior team is getting ready for the coming season. She also plans to play rugby in Brampton in the spring. The 17-year-old lives in Brampton with her parents Judith and Anthony Barnes.
Rpbert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Cameron Lavoie The 15-year-old played defence for the varsity hockey team, which won at ROPSSAA and lost in the bronze medal game at OFSSAA. Away from school, he plays major bantam AAA hockey in the Brampton 45s organization, and he's thinking about playing lacrosse this summer. The Grade 9 student lives in Caledon East with his parents Joe-Anne and Luc Lavoie.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Nando Sirianni The Grade 11 student has been making his mark playing singles in senior boys' badminton, losing in the finals of the qualifying tournament for ROPSSAA. He was also a forward for the senior boys' hockey team that made it to the semifinals. Away from school, he used to play hockey in Mississauga. The 16-year-old lives in Bolton with his parents Rose and Joe Sirianni.
Humberview Secondary School Mary Upshall The 17-year-old has been busy playing senior girls' badminton, while also coaching the junior mixed team. Away from school, she plays striker in the Caledon East Soccer Club. The Grade 12 student lives in Bolton with her parents Marion and Michael Upshall.
