Various teams were taking part, representing the Town of Caledon, local businesses and people from the community. This was one of five fundraising bowling events being held around the region. The next one is planned for April 6 at Brunswick Bramalea Lanes in Brampton. This is the agency's largest fundraising event. Proceeds from it go directly toward mentoring programs that make life-changing differences for children and youth in the community. Big Brothers Big Sisters cited a recent study on mentoring which revealed key results about the impact mentors make on the lives of young people. They found girls with a “Big Sister” are two and a half times more likely than girls without a mentor to be confident in their ability to succeed at school; boys with a “Big Brother” are three times less likely than boys without a mentor to suffer peer pressure related to anxiety, such as worrying about what others think or say about them; mentored boys are two times more likely to believe school is fun and that doing well academically is important; and mentored boys are two times less likely to develop negative conduct, like bullying, fighting, lying, cheating, losing their temper or expressing anger. Prominent among those taking part in the recent Tim Hortons Bowl for Kids Sake event at Skyview Lanes was Big Brother Tim Thornton of Bolton and his Little Brother Anthony, 12, of Caledon. The two have been together for about three years. The Bolton offices of CIBC were represented by Mandeep Grewal, Carmela Roberto, Andrew Faua, Venki Raman, Marcello Itri and Mary Joe Lopes.Photos by Bill Rea RBC Financial Group in Bolton put a team in the bowling event, consisting of Maia Romeo, Adriana Romeo, Lucas romeo, Evan Thompson, Jessica Palumbo, Jeff Smellie, Marilena Escota and Mary Escoto.
