Still people not getting message about drinking and drivingDuring the week ending Monday (Nov. 23), members of the Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) team and patrol officers from Caledon OPP conducted 25 spot checks at various locations within town. They resulted in 25 drivers being asked to provide breath samples at the scene who passed. There were also four drivers who had their licences lifted for three days and four others who were charged with impaired driving or driving with more than the legal limit of alcohol in their systems, having care and control of a vehicle while under the influence or refusing to provide a sample. They included a 54-year-old man from Oakville who was charged Nov. 19, a 20-year-old resident of Etobicoke charged Nov. 20, a 51-year-old Caledon man charged Nov. 21 and a 49-year-old man from Brampton charged Nov. 22. The previous week saw 22 spot checks conducted in town. Police report officers conducted 36 tests with screening devices on drivers who had consumed alcohol, but whose breath samples revealed an alcohol blood content of less than .05 per cent. Three motorists were handed three-day suspensions, and five were charged. They included a 23-year-old man from Erin who was charged Nov. 8, a 29-year-old man from Bolton charged Nov. 9, a 29-year-old man from Caledon charged Nov. 9 and a 40-year-old man from Etobicoke charges Nov. 11 (who was also charged with refusing to provide a breath sample). As well, a 36-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with driving while disqualified, obstructing police, failing to comply with a probation order and refusing to supply a breath sample, as well as an offence under the Liquor License Act. |
