Sports Subway Athletes of the Week — March 13, 2014
Mayfield Secondary School Kynyn Doughty This 17-year-old made a significant contribution to the nordic ski team's medal-winning performance at OFSSAA in Timmins, placing 18th individually. She is also active at school in cross-country running and rowing. The Grade 12 students lives in Bolton with her parents Angus Doughty and Sian Leyshon-Doughty.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Janna Furbacher This Grade 11 student played middle for the varsity volleyball team, which made it to the finals of ROPSSAA. She also used to play basketball in school. Away from school, she plays club volleyball with Aurora Storm, as well as house league soccer with Caledon East Soccer Club. The 16-year-old lives in Caledon East with her parents Erica and Alan Furbacher.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Nick Biamonte This 16-year-old played goal for the junior boys' hockey team, and he was in net for the 4-0 shutout that saw the team take the ROPSSAA title over Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Secondary School. Away from school, he plays goal in the Caledon Minor Hockey organization. The Grade 10 student lives in Bolton with his parents Tony and Claudia Biamonte.
Humberview Secondary School Abigail Walker This Grade 9 student was part of the school's nordic ski team. She was 56th individually at OFSSAA and was first among the junior girls from Humberview. She is also a cross-country runner and is thinking of going out for track in the spring. In the community, she skates competitively with the Bolton Figure Skating Club. The 14-year-old lives in Bolton with her parents Dave and Wendy Walker.
