Sports DQ Athletes of the Week — June 25, 2015
Mayfield Secondary School Jared Shaw This Grade 12 student converted from the outfield to first base this year for the school's varsity baseball team, which went undefeated until the teachers' strike intervened. He's also taken part in nordic skiing and cross-country running. Away from school, he plays house league baseball in the Orangeville Bengals' organization and plays rep hockey with the Orangeville Flyers. The 18-year-old lives in Belfountain with his parents John Shaw and Karen Gardiner.
Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Aaron Hauck This 18-year-old was a member of the varsity baseball team and made it to ROPSSAA this year. He pitched and played third base. He was also a member of the varsity volleyball team that showed some improvement this year. Away from school, he plays rep baseball in the Bolton Braves organization. The Grade 12 student lives in the Caledon East area with his parents Tracey and Jeff Hauck.
St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Sydney Bokla This Grade 9 student was a striker on the junior girls' soccer team which recently won at ROPSSAA. She also played flag football at school in the fall, as a wide receiver and back-up quarterback. In the community, she plays rep soccer in the Vaughan Cobras organization. The 14-year-old lives in Bolton with her parents Michael and Louise Bokla.
Humberview Secondary School Jake Wyant This 17-year-old was a second baseman and short stop on the school's varsity baseball team, which saw its season curtailed because of the teachers' strike. His athletic interests in the community are confined to baseball too, playing elite ball for the Brampton Royals. “I only do baseball,” he said. The Grade 11 student lives in Palgrave with his parents Jenny and Danny Wyant.
