Some good hockey played for a good causeThe local OPP contingent does a pretty good job of keeping the area safe, but they met their match Sunday night when it came to hockey. The game was close and it took a shootout to settle the issue, but the Garden Foods Grinders prevailed over the OPP Road Runners in the Face-Off for Families event at Caledon Community Complex in Caledon East. The match was a fundraiser for Caledon Community Services (CCS), and at the end, Garden Foods proprietor Piero Carbone presented a cheque for $30,000 to CCS Chief Executive Officer Monty Laskin. “We're starved for good hockey,” Laskin remarked. “We had it tonight.” The money will go to aid CCS's efforts to build strong and happy families by providing food support, job training and education assistance for youth to help them develop into contributing neighbours. |
