Runners have a scary good time at Bolton Rotary’s annual Haunted Hill Walk/RunFunds raised from event will be used to support youth programs in the community By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Caledon residents embraced the Halloween spirit at a recent charity run. On October 29, Bolton Rotary hosted its annual Haunted Hill Walk/Run event outside of the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness. The event raised approximately $15,000 for youth programs in Caledon. It began at 9 a.m. with a one-kilometre kids fun run, and there were many kids in attendance in costumes ranging from cute to terrifying. At 9:30 a.m., the five-kilometre walk/run began and the adults participating were wearing costumes too. It made for a fun atmosphere and when the runners took off from the start line, it was a sight to see. After the run, participants were welcomed inside where there was chili, hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate served. There was also face painting and backdrops in front of which to take Halloween photos. Volunteers from the local Girl Guides and Alpha Dogs Robotics teams assisted at the event, and Bolton Rotary member Karen Fast said they were a great help. Fast said she's been receiving great feedback about this year's run and is hearing from many people who say they'll be back next year. With each year, Bolton Rotary looks to expand their Haunted Hill event and get more people involved and next year will be no exception. Some of Fast's favourite costumes of the day included participants who were dressed up as bananas and raccoons. Fast said she wanted to express sincere thanks to all who sponsored this year's Haunted Hill Walk/Run. The event was sponsored by All-Lift Ltd., Banas Stones, Bolton Park Dentistry, Bolton Veterinary Hospital, Bolton Carpet and Interiors, Core Financial Group, Fines Ford, in Memory of Bob Smith, Metalcraft Spinning and Stamping, Nobleton Veterinary Clinic, Rafat, Ri-Go Lift Truck, Scotiabank, and Sierra Excavating. |
