Rotary Club of Palgrave’s Weekly Rotary MinuteBy Krysta Cadden The “Why” of Rotary is different for each member and for each, it is deeply personal. Life takes us in many different directions, so when we each choose a volunteer organization to spend our free time with, we know that it means a great deal to us on some level. For Mike L., it is a way to give back to the community that showed him so much support during his late wife's illness. He chose Rotary because “it is wonderfully simple and produces results.” For Pat C., it is a place where no idea is too small and we embrace all things that allow us to come together as a club for the benefit of our community. For Derek C., it is a way to carry on his family's tradition of giving back to the community. For Greg S., it is choosing to accept the responsibility of joining a team of like-minded people whose main purpose is “to help promote awareness of the dignity of all people.” His personal membership challenge is to continue to contribute using the people in this room as mentors and he likes his chances! For Janet C., it is recognizing that she found a place where the more she gives the more she wants to give. For Brenda A., it is being part of a group of great men and women who help her give back to the community she has spent so much time in. For each of us, as a Rotarian, it is living the motto “service above self” — it just happens to be a lot of fun at the same time!
