I've always enjoyed giving back and helping people and it's the reason why I've been a financial planner for over 15 years. Many years ago, I called Palgrave Rotary, and asked if I could help at their annual Terry Fox Run — a cause that has always been dear to my heart. Ah, remember that word . . . Heart. That was all before I knew what Rotary was all about. I “thought” Rotary was a group of local businessmen/professionals that got together to network and raise funds for various causes in the community. Years later, I received invitations to attend a weekly meeting to check out Palgrave Rotary. Boy was I wrong about what I thought Rotary was. As a member for the past three years now, Palgrave Rotary to me, has been about getting together and enjoying socializing over dinner with friends — members who are both men and women from all walks of life — listening to great speakers, from our community and around the world on causes we support (and shedding a tear on more than one occasion). It's also been about having lots of fun cooking in the Chuck Wagon at community events, being on the Wines of the World fundraising committee to find sponsors, helping Santa at the Tree Lighting, collecting hockey equipment First Nations Youth who have none, and of course, there is so much more that our Club and Rotary does. Everyone works tirelessly, because we all have a Big Heart. We all do what we do, not because we have to, but because we want to make our community, and the world, just a little bit better. It's amazing what we can all do together with just an idea and lots of Heart! For an introduction to Rotary, please join us in Caledon East April 6 at St. James Anglican Church.
