Residents urged to weigh in on Caledon’s 2026 BudgetBy Riley Murphy Local Journalism Initiative Reporter As staff review Caledon's budget for next year, the Town invites residents and businesses to share their input through a Have Your Say public survey. Feedback will help to inform decisions and shape the community. The survey will remain open until Tuesday, September 30, 2025, and includes eight questions and an additional comments box. “The Town's budget focuses on efficiency, ensuring every dollar is used effectively to serve our residents,” said Mayor Annette Groves. “Your feedback will help pave the way for a more sustainable and accountable future for Caledon.” Councillor Kiernan for Ward 1 shared that resident participation in the 2026 Budget Survey is more important than ever. “With Strong Mayor powers in place, the Mayor has added authority over the budget process. That makes it even more critical that residents take this opportunity to share their priorities and concerns. Your input ensures that Council discussions reflect the needs of our community and that local voices remain at the center of decision-making,” said Kiernan. She shared that the budget determines how tax dollars are spent on services, infrastructure, and programs that affect all. “By completing the survey, you help shape those decisions and make sure our community's values are represented.” Councillor Dave Sheen for Ward 2 also emphasized the importance of the budget this year, given the Town's “Strong Mayor” budget process. “This means that once the Mayor's draft is presented, Council members like myself can propose amendments, but the major priorities are largely set by then,” shared Sheen. “If residents don't want to feel shut out of the process or caught by surprise with an unexpected property tax hike, I know it's only August, but now is the time to get involved and to make your voices heard and your priorities known.” He stated that early participation helps ensure the budget better reflects the community's true needs and values. Councillor Nick de Boer for Ward 4 emphasized the importance of residents participating in the survey so that staff can prioritize projects accordingly.
