Residents must ‘make democracy work’

For the past month, I have been consumed by the Cheltenham Badlands parking lot issue, working to raise awareness about the lack of preservation of the ANSI land as well as highlight the safety concerns over Olde Base Line Road being the only access road for first responders.
Barb Shaughnessy, a strong candidate running in Ward 1, encouraged me to delegate Town council. The efforts were successful, and for the time being, the Region of Peel has passed a motion to hold off on the project until there is a complete and comprehensive plan. This effort eclipsed all other things in my day-to-day life. Time was hijacked.
With only 19,000 households in Caledon, and having a tiny voice in the Peel Regional council (overwhelmed by Brampton and Mississauga), I urge the eligible voters to get out and be heard. Do your duty and vote for strong candidates who will fight to save our fragile community. We will have no one to blame but ourselves, if we don't take the time to review the candidates and cast an informed vote for Caledon Town council.
It is our responsibility to make democracy work, and unless we make time for this important, duty, we will end up with no farm land and just be a continuous subdivision. There are many young faces, bringing a new energy and dedication, to choose from. We have an opportunity to get Caledon back on track for the next four years. It is up to all of us, to wake up and to wake up some of the folks asleep in council chambers.
