Residents invited to participate in Caledon’s spookiest run this weekendAnnual Haunted Hill Walk/Run held by Bolton Rotary By ZACHARY ROMAN Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Nowhere else can you find Iron Man and Frankenstein lined up for a running race. On Sunday, October 27, Bolton Rotary is hosting its highly-anticipated annual Haunted Hill Walk/Run event. There's a one-kilometre kids fun run at 9:30 a.m. and a five-kilometre walk/run beginning at 10 a.m. — costumes are encouraged for both. The runs both start outside the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness in Bolton. Registration for the runs is free, and kids fun run participants will receive a medal that was designed and 3D-printed by Humberview Secondary School students. Bolton Rotary covers costs of the event thanks to generous sponsors, and all proceeds from the event go to youth programs in the Caledon community. Bolton Rotary member Karen Fast explained there's some exciting new initiatives at this year's event. “One is a school challenge; we're inviting groups of six to eight students to form a team and participate, and the school will get a $500 cheque and the runners get a pizza party,” said Fast. “We've got one or two teams already.” Another new activity at this year's event is a scavenger hunt that was designed by a Humberview Secondary School student. Fast said many local students have volunteered to help with the run. There will be food and prizes at the event, and many spooky decorations. “It's a community event and we are so happy to put this on for everybody,” said Fast. “Any proceeds we make over and above our expenses go back to youth programs; things like the Caledon Cavaliers rugby team – we just put in new goal posts for them and a new storage container.” |
