This took place Oct. 19 in Mississauga. “Approximately 85 per cent of residents in Peel participate in the Region's Blue Box Program,” remarked Director Waste Management Norman Lee. “Saving one million trees a year is something Peel residents should be very proud of. The new recycling carts that are currently being delivered in Peel will give residents the capacity to do even more.” If residents are unsure that an item is recyclable, they can visit peelregion.ca/waste and use How To Sort Your Waste, an online sorting tool which has correct disposal information for more than 600 items. Residents can also refer to their Waste Management Guide that was delivered to homes in April and multi-residential homes in August. “Learning and practicing 3 R behaviours — reduce, reuse and recycle — means your household will generate less garbage, which is better for the environment,” commented Councillor Jennifer Innis, vice-chair of Peel's Waste Management Sub-Committee. “Getting in the habit of using the recycling and organics programs will reduce the amount of garbage you put at the curb.” Waste Reduction Week (WRW) is a nation-wide initiative that encourages Canadians to reduce, reuse and recycle acceptable waste. WRW calls on all Canadians to adopt more environmentally conscious choices and is currently held in the third week of October each year. Waste Management Sub-Committee Vice-Chair Jennifer Innis, Regional Chair Frank Dale, Regional CAO David Szwarc, Director of Waste Management Norman Lee, Mississauga Councillor Chris Fonseca and Linda Downey of Fonseca's office were on hand for last Monday's tree planting.Photo by Bill Rea --------------------------------------------------- Images: https://caledoncitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/42-tree-5.5-289x300.jpg --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2015-11-18 15:37:59 Post date GMT: 2015-11-18 20:37:59 Post modified date: 2015-11-19 09:38:54 Post modified date GMT: 2015-11-19 14:38:54 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
