A company would like to plan for 14,000 housing units in the south of Caledon.

The Town of Caledon will be hosting a public information session at 7 p.m. on November 19 at Caledon Town Hall (6311 Old Church Road) on the Alloa Secondary Plan.

Glen Schnarr and Associates, on behalf of the Alloa Landowners Group, is proposing an amendment to Caledon's Official Plan so it can develop a secondary plan for 14,000 housing units across 1,800 acres in the Alloa area of Caledon.

The land in question is bounded by Mayfield Road in the south, the Highway 413 Protection Corridor in the north and west, and Chinguacousy Road to the east.

The 14,000 proposed housing units would accommodate roughly 40,000 people.

The secondary plan would include a protected natural heritage system, employment area, community amenities, connected road and active transportation network, and a “mix of land uses” according to a Town summary of proposed changes.

“The employment area will be planned for approximately 2,470 jobs and a further 1,490 population-related jobs are expected. The estimated density will be approximately 90 residents and jobs per hectare,” said the Town in a public notice.

Residents can attend the public meeting on November 19 in person or online. They can also submit written comments about the secondary plan on the town's website, caledon.ca, or by emailing agenda@caledon.ca or planning@caledon.ca.
