Public education to be graded at Lifetree CaféThe state of public education will be examined at Lifetree Café this coming Wednesday (March 19). The program, entitled Pass or Fail? The State of Education, will feature filmed stories from Nikhil Goyal, TED talk speaker and author of One Size Does Not Fit All: A Student's Assessment of School, and Sajan George, founder of Matchbook Learning, a school-turnaround organization. “Thirteen years of being in the system annihilated my creative potential,” observed Goyal, a recent high school graduate. “School stunted my creative prowess. I came to the realization that I was seen not as a human being, but as a test score.” He now advocates a number of changes for the educational system. Participants in the program will discuss the current state of public education and what changes might improve the system for schools, parents, and students. The program will run from 7 to 8 p.m. and admission will be free. Snacks and beverages will be available. Lifetree Café is at St. James' Anglican Church, 6025 Old Church Rd., Caledon East. Lifetree Café is a place where people gather for conversation about life and faith in a casual coffeehouse-type setting.
