Project 10-4 cut number of accidentsThe Caledon, Dufferin and Grey County Detachments of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with policing partners in Owen Sound, Peel Region and Shelburne, had a successful enforcement campaign during Project 10-4, which ran from June 10 to 14. The goal was to make Highway 10 a safer place to drive with the combined efforts of the involved police agencies. Statistics from 2012 revealed that the majority of collisions occurred on Highway 10 during weekdays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., with peak collision times between 2 and 6 p.m. In 2012, during the week of June 11 to 15, the policing partners reported 39 collisions on Highway 10. Statistics from 2013, during Project 10-4, revealed that there were 24 collisions reported for the entire 170 kilometer stretch of the highway, from Mississauga to Owen Sound. “We are very pleased with the results of Project 10-4,” commented Inspector Rose DiMarco, commander of Caledon OPP. “The goal of the initiative was to reduce motor vehicle collisions and we can confirm that the current statistic indicates that our goal was achieved. We continue, along with our policing partners, to educate the public on the dangers of aggressive driving, distracted driving, impaired driving, and occupants not wearing safety restraints.” |
