Police issue reminder of importance of locking up valuables


Caledon OPPā€ˆare reminding residents to secure their vehicles and homes by ensuring that all entrances and doors are locked when unattended.
Recently, several residences in the south area of Caledon have been targeted and victimized. Officers have received several calls for service regarding vehicles being left unlocked and items being removed. Small change and small items of value were targeted in each occurrence, with suspects gaining entry due to insecure doors.
Police are reminding people to lock their vehicle doors and to never leave wallets or other personal items of value in them. In the event that a vehicle is entered and items taken, the owners are asked to contact the OPP Communications Centre at 1-888-310-1122.
They are also reminding residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, vehicles or activity immediately. Information such as suspect physical descriptions, vehicle descriptions and direction of travel are all useful information for investigators.
Any information about the thefts from vehicles or any other criminal act can be reported directly to the police or anonymously to Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
