Police holding information session on auxiliary constables


Caledon OPP are recruiting for a number of available auxiliary constable positions at the detachment.
Interested persons are invited to attend an information session at the detachment this coming Wednesday (Nov. 22) at 7 p.m.
The information session is an opportunity for those looking to gain more insight into the auxiliary program, as interviews for the open positions will be commencing in the near future.
Volunteering part-time with OPP is a great way to make a difference in the community. Being a volunteer member with the OPP Auxiliary Unit is both exciting and challenging.
The duties of an auxiliary constable may include:
• Going on patrol with OPP uniform officers;
• Assisting at community events and functions, such as car seat clinics;
• Assisting with safety presentations;
• RIDE initiatives;
• Victim assistance; and
• Ceremonial duties.
Some of the benefits of volunteering with the OPP Auxiliary Unit include:
• All uniforms and equipment are provided by the organization;
• It helps to prepare for an exciting career in policing, for those choose that path;
• The advantage of direct learning from experienced officers; and
• Developing a better understanding of the role of policing, while taking pride in making the community safe.
The criteria to be eligible to become an OPP auxiliary constable includes being at least 18 years of age; a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident of Canada holding a class ‘G' driver's licence with full driving privileges and no more than six demerit points; having completed an Ontario Secondary School Diploma program or equivalent; and having completed Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer (level C) CPR courses.
This information session is open to all qualified individuals, including those who have previously submitted applications, as well as those who wish to apply.
