Penetang leading GMOHL final — Alliston meltdown in game three gives Kings the edge

By Brian Lockhart
The Penetang Kings are leading the Georgian Mid-Ontario Junior C Hockey League final series 2-1 against the Alliston Hornets after game three in Alliston Tuesday night.
Penetang won game one of the series 3-2 opening night in Penetang in a match that saw the teams play to a 2-2 tie in the first period. The Kings scored a single in the second to take the lead and eventually the game.
Game two in Alliston saw the series tied when the Hornets notched three goals early in the first period. Penetang scored two to close the gap, but that was it for the night. Alliston had one in the third on a power play to get some insurance and the Hornets won the game 4-2 to tie the series at one each.
The teams returned to Alliston ice Tuesday for game three.
After a confident first period and a one-goal lead at the end of the frame, the Hornets were leading 2-1 late in the second. That's when the unthinkable happened for the squad. The Kings scored three goals in the space of 31 seconds, then followed up with a power-play goal at just over a minute later to lead the game 5-2 going into the final 20 minutes.
It was a devastating period that left the Hornets reeling in their mistakes, and that couple of minutes cost them the game.
The Hornets scored one in the third that was matched by a Kings' goal and the game ended 6-3 for Penetang.
Game four was scheduled for Penetang last night (Wednesday), with results coming in after press time.
Game five is slated for Friday in Penetang.
If necessary, the series will return to Alliston Sunday, with a 7 p.m. start at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
