Over a recent weekend, the Caledon Hawks peewee AE hockey team captured the Bradford Blue and Gold Classic championship in true style. Suffering only one round-robin loss, the Hawks played tremendous defensive hockey and received excellent goaltending in allowing a mere seven goals against in five games. In the semifinal game against the Meadowvale Hawks, center Liam Bavington snapped a high wrist shot past the outstretched glove of the goalie, in Triple OT, to win in dramatic fashion by a 2-1 score. In the final versus the Belle River Canadiens, the Hawks gained an early lead and never looked back. They fore-checked strongly, out chancing the opposition in all three periods en route to outshooting the Canadiens 29-15. The entire team back checked well and played solid defence as the Hawks went on to beat the Canadiens 4-1 in the AE Championship Game. The Hawks goal scorers were Garrett Graham, Liam Bavington, Thomas McClure and Evan Patterson. Goaltender Lucas Hillert earned the well-deserved victory, while defenceman Adam Hauck earned player-of-the-game honours.
