Peel schools toast drinking tap water with Great Gulp

Peel Region invited local schools to participate in the second annual Great Gulp event in support of Canada Water Week from March 9 to 13.
The Great Gulp helps promote tap water in Peel through a school-wide synchronized drink of water from a reusable container. Schools participated in the Great Gulp throughout the week. This year, more than 66,000 students from 130 schools registered to take part.
“This activity provides schools with an opportunity to learn about tap water in a fun, collaborative manner,” commented Supervisor of Environmental Education Carol Chaput. “Last year, we were amazed by the level of creativity brought to the event; from students dressing in blue, to posters and presentations about the benefits of choosing tap water.”
“Our goal is to raise awareness about Peel's high quality tap water and encourage residents to choose tap water when reaching for a drink,” Chaput added. “We know good habits start early in life, so we are pleased to help teach children that tap water is convenient, safe and good for your health and the environment.”
The Great Gulp is an annual event. For more information, visit peelregion.ca/pw/education-outreach or call 905-791-7800, ext. 4409.
