Peel Region wins award from OPA

By Bill Rea
It was a time for taking bows at Peel Regional Council recently.
Caledon Councillor Richard Whitehead announced the Region had received an Ontario Power Authority (OPA) Community Conservation Award.
Whitehead, who chairs the management committee of Regional council, said Peel residents should be honoured. “It doesn't happen very often,” he said.
The staff report to council stated the award was presented Aug. 18. This is the third year for the award program, which is a collaborative effort led by OPA with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the Electricity Distributors Association. Peel was one of three recipients.
“The Region of Peel won this award because of the Region's many innovative and progressive energy projects,” the staff report stated, adding the projects included the South Peel Water System Pumping Optimization Study, Smog Alert Automated Response System, Ozone Laundry Pilot, education and outreach initiatives provided through Let Your Green Show and Water Smart Peel.
