Peel CAS strike is over

The 13 week strike between Peel Children's Aid Society and Local 4914 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) came to an end last Thursday.
Both parties agreed to take outstanding items to binding arbitration.
“We are pleased that the strike has ended,” Rav Bains, CEO of Peel CAS, said, adding they were looking forward to having the employees return to the job.
“Our members could not be happier to go back to work,” Local 4914 President Sonia Yung said in a media release that was on the Local's  website. “Our focus has always been on the children and families of Peel, and now we can return to our job of giving the highest level of care possible.”
The strike involved some 435 frontline, administrative and support workers with CAS. They were due to return to work Monday.
“We want to thank our community, clients and partners for their patience and understanding during the strike,” Bains added. “It's been a long strike and we are grateful that our staff can now get back to the important work they do to supporting children, youth and families in our community.”
“Now the important thing is getting back to work and letting the arbitration process continue while our members focus on what is important,” Yung said; “the children and families of Peel who rely on our service.”
