Pan Am Torch relay will highlight Caledon DayThis Saturday (July 13) is going to be a very busy day in Caledon. The annual Caledon Day festivities are going to be taking place at the campus of Town Hall in Caledon East. One of the high points of the day will be the arrival of the Pan AM Games Torch, making its last of six stops at various locations in Caledon. Toronto Maple Leaf forward (and Caledon native) Peter Holland will be carrying the Torch onto the grounds. The day was established in 2008, and is put on by the Town. It will run from 2 until 11 p.m., and admission will be free. The evening will be highlighted by a performance of the Juno Award winning band Trooper. And the whole thing will be topped off with a fireworks display, slated for 10 p.m. The main stage promises to be hopping this year. Miss Universe Canada, Chanel Beckenlehner of Cedar Mills will be MC, along with Melissa Grelo (The Social) and Johnathan Sousa (Rookie Blue). CBC is setting up shop to broadcast live from Caledon all day, following the torch all the way to the main stage at 5:45 p.m. The day's complete agenda, including show times for Caledon's Battle of the Bands winner, opening act The Nomads, information about the day's sponsors and more can be found at caledon.ca/caledonday There will also be a Beer Zone, with a variety of domestic beers, Adamo Estate Wine Bar, and coolers. The Car and Motorcycle Zone will feature a great display of classic, high-performance and vintage cars. The Library Lounge will host the launch of Nicola Ross's Loops and Lattes. There will also be a Hydration Station, so bring a water bottle for freefill-ups. There will be free parking available at Robert F. Hall Secondary School, Caledon East Soccer Complex (after 3 p.m.) and Caledon East Fire Hall Park. Premium parking is available at Town Hall and Caledon Community Complex for $5 per car. |
