Pan Am torch coming through Caledon

When the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games organizers put out a call for volunteers, Caledon citizens answered loud and strong, according to the Town of Caledon.
All Games host municipalities, stretching from Oshawa to Welland, had volunteer targets to strive for. As of last week, the Caledon/Mono/Innisfil catchment has met its target of 1,750 volunteers, and 80 per cent of them are Caledon residents.
With less than 200 days to go until the Pan Am Games, anticipation and preparations are ramping up. Close to 7,000 athletes from across Latin America, South America, the Caribbean and North America will compete in 36 Pan Am sports at the Games.
Caledon is hosting the equestrian jumping and dressage events at the Caledon Pan Am Equestrian Park in Palgrave, and nearby Pan Am Cross-Country Centre (Will O Wind) in Mono will be the venue for equestrian cross country eventing.
β€œAn event of this magnitude cannot happen without the help of volunteers,” observed Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson. β€œI am confident that the citizens of Caledon will help deliver the best Pan Am Games ever.”
The Pan Am Games take place from July 10 to 26. Equestrian competition dates are July 11, 12, 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 23 and 25. The Town of Caledon will be hosting several celebration events leading up to and during the Games.
