A community cooking club started in Palgrave has become a big success.

On June 27, the Palgrave United Community Kitchen (PUCK), Caledon Community Services (CCS), ecoCaledon, and 100 Women Who Care Caledon (100WWCC) celebrated the success of PUCK and ecoCaledon's Community Cooking Club.

The club, which ran from January to June, was made possible thanks to funding from 100WWCC.

The club met once per month at the Palgrave United Church to learn how to make healthy, plant-based meals. The Club would then try the meals together, and donate all the meals they made to The Exchange, Caledon's food bank that's run by CCS.

Karen McDonald, Chair of 100WWCC, said the Club had many different aspects of things 100WWCC likes to see happen with its donations.

“It impacted a lot of people in the community because they were able to bring the food to The Exchange and it was used in the food bank which was wonderful,” said McDonald. “It really hit a whole bunch of marks.”

PUCK volunteer Barb Imrie said the Club was proud to have donated over 500 healthy meals to The Exchange.

CCS CEO Geraldine Aguiar said the meals are a lifeline to those in need in the community.

“Our clients at The Exchange received over 500 nutritious meals cooked with such care and love… that intention travels through,” said Aguiar.

Imrie said after the success the club saw, PUCK is looking to host it again as soon as possible.
