Palgrave Rotary celebrates 25th anniversary of Wines of the World event

June 22 fundraiser at Palgrave Equestrian Park was a success

Caledon residents sampled delicious wines while supporting a good cause last weekend. 

On June 22, the Rotary Club of Palgrave held its annual Wines of the World fundraiser at the Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave. It was the 25th anniversary of the popular event.

Palgrave Rotary member Raphael Boettger said he was happy with the “spectacular” turnout for Wines of the World this year.

“We have some really great volunteers and really great sponsors, most of them have been with us every year and they really believe in this event,” said Boettger. “This is our marquee event and it's been going really well. The volunteers put in tons of hours, blood, sweat and tears to make it happen.”

Palgrave Rotary is currently fundraising alongside Bolton Rotary to support the Caledon Cavaliers rugby club in getting new uprights for their field. Boettger said getting the club regulation-size uprights will give them a real home that feels professional.

Musician Jessica Sole returned this year to entertain guests at Wines of the World.

“She always puts on a great show,” said Boettger.

Ross Farrelly, a past president of Palgrave Rotary, was a member of the club when it started in 1981. He explained Wines of the World began 25 years ago as an initiative spearheaded by past club president and wine aficionado Struan Richie.

The original events were catered by Henry Maag.

In the years since, the event has grown to be one of Caledon's signature summer events. 

Farrelly said he was happy to see such a great crowd out for the event despite the unpredictable weather, and that the guests seemed to really be enjoying the food from Absolute Catering and many different wines on offer.
