OSSGA presents Industry Advancement Awards to two Caledon pit sites

The Caledon Pit and Flaherty Central Pit, both operated by Lafarge Canada Inc., have earned prestigious Industry Advancement Awards from the Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA).
At OSSGA's Annual Conference in Toronto, the Community Relations Award, which recognizes good neighbourly activities, community involvement, media relations, education and awareness, was presented to the Caledon Pit. Lafarge's Flaherty Central Pit earned the Progressive Rehabilitation Award, which recognizes outstanding progress in the rehabilitation of extracted portions of active pit or quarry sites.
“On behalf of Lafarge and our team, we are deeply gratified for the recognition of our work in building better cities and communities through responsible, sustainable aggregate development,” said Brent Trott, plant manager. “Lafarge is committed to raising the bar and being a leader in community relations, land rehabilitation and environmental stewardship. We will continue to build on our record, using our strengths and working with the local community in the years ahead.”
“We encourage our members to go above and beyond their legal requirements to be valued members of their community,” said OSSGA Chief Executive Officer Ted Wigdor. “Our members understand that being a productive member of the community goes hand in hand with doing business in a community.”
OSSGA is a non-profit industry association representing more than 280 sand, gravel and crushed stone producers and suppliers of valuable industry products and services. Collectively, members supply 75 per cent of the approximately 164 million tonnes of aggregate consumed annually on average in the province to build and maintain Ontario's infrastructure needs. OSSGA works in partnership with government and the public to promote a safe and competitive aggregate industry contributing to the creation of strong communities in the province.
