It was held at St. George's Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke. The event was supported by Orlando Corporation's historic $15 million Matching Challenge, raising $429,760 toward the redevelopment and equipment needs of a new four-storey wing currently under construction at Etobicoke General Hospital. The new wing will support the delivery of best-in-class emergency care and expand programs that serve the community's most urgent health care needs. Science Minister and Etobicoke North MP Kirsty Duncan was a special guest, coming out to show her support for the hospital expansion project. “It's heartwarming to see an excellent turnout of sponsors and players for this tournament, making it one of our most successful,” Foundation President and CEO Ken Mayhew commented. “We are truly fortunate to have such wonderful champions on the event committee, chaired by Scott Vickers, who has chaired the event for 20 years, as well as the passionate sponsors and participants who are helping to ensure we can move forward with this transformational expansion of our 44-year-old facility.” The tournament was capped off with a dinner where former patient Richard Steer provided a moving speech to the audience about his family's experience at Etobicoke General and their decision to support their local community hospital. “To go from not needing a hospital to having three of the four members of our family receiving critically-needed care was eye-opening,” he said. “We did not know what we had when we really needed it. And we did not know that all of the equipment must be funded through community donations. Now we know and now you know.” Steer called on the community to devote their time and energy to this cause. For a limited time, members of the community can get a boost to their Osler Foundation contributions, thanks to the matching gift challenge by Orlando Corporation. Donations to Etobicoke General Hospital, regardless of the size of the gift, will be doubled. A gift of $25,000 will help equip one of the many patient examination rooms in the new wing of Etobicoke General Hospital which include a new Emergency Department, Maternal/Newborn Unit, and Cardiology, Respiratory and Neurodiagnostic Care Unit. There are many options around the room-naming opportunity, which can be in honour of a group, company, or perhaps a loved one. --------------------------------------------------- Images: https://caledoncitizen.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/38-osler-5.5-300x246.jpg --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2016-12-14 14:52:55 Post date GMT: 2016-12-14 19:52:55 Post modified date: 2016-12-15 09:07:44 Post modified date GMT: 2016-12-15 14:07:44 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
