Organizers pleased with turnout at first ever Bolton Comic-ConWritten By ALYSSA PARKHILL The Caledon Public Library turned into a convention centre to introduce Bolton's first Comic-Con this past Saturday (Nov. 9). Pop Culture Canada has been in business for roughly 10 years, hosting conventions all over Southern Ontario. They decided to make a pit stop in Bolton because of the amount of residents who were travelling to attend their events. “This is our first time in Bolton. We decided to do a Comic-Con here because we do a lot of shows in the area, and we always get people trickling down from Bolton,” says Pop Culture Canada promoter, Brian Gaudet. “We get so many people through the door, so we thought ‘let's bring Comic-Con' to them.” Pop Culture Canada Comicon's host autograph signings and guest talks, comic conventions, pro wrestling events, and cosplay wrestling. But Pop Culture Canada is more than just cosplay and comic books. “Big thing about Pop Culture Canada is we do food drives for local food banks,” says Gaudet. “That is the biggest thing we try to accomplish out of each and every one of these shows, is to try to get as much food going in for the food banks as possible. If you're coming out we try to encourage people to bring food donations.” The event hosts several different vendors to promote their businesses as well as to invite the public to view and purchase items from their tables. Some of the vendors included comics, jewellery, video games, different kind of Knick knacks from movies, video games and books. Gaudet runs his own table, as alongside from being a Pop Culture Canada promoter for the past four years, he also runs his own business of comic books called The Comic Jock.
