Bret Smith led the Jiffy Lube Oilers to sole possession of first place in a battle of the top two teams. The Oilers handed Bolton Chiropractic Centre their first loss of the season with a 4-2 win, thanks to Smith's goal and two assists. Jiffy Lube is now the only unbeaten team in the CSHL and sits in first place with a 4-0-2 record. In the other CSHL games at Don Sheardown Memorial Arena, Fines Ford Lincoln outlasted Heart Lake Insurance 7-6 to move into third place, and Rutherford Global Logistics earned their first win of the season with a 6-4 decision at the expense of Yale Industrial Trucks. Jiffy Lube 4, Bolton Chiropractic 2 Bill Doherty and Santo Gazzolla each notched a goal and an assist for Jiffy Lube. Randy Freitag scored the other goal. Mike Lo Dico, Frank Cirone and Steve Sanderson each picked up one assist. Mike Shore and Nick Pistilli scored for the Chiropractors. John Crossley, Nick Taccogna, Rod Sinclair and Dave Smith had single assists. Fines Ford 7, Heart Lake Insurance 6 Jim Rogers and Ron Sampson were a powerful duo as they combined for two goals and two assists each to lead Fines Ford into third place with the win. Damian Niccols added a goal and an assist while Bill MacKenzie scored the winning marker with 1:39 left in the game. Joe Palumbo scored the other goal. Tony Curcio was the top playmaker with three assists. David Shoalts and John Pallotta both had two assists while Peter Kuchar had one. Heart Lake defenceman Luch Pinarello had a career game with five assists. Garth Young and Bob McHardy grabbed two goals and an assist each. Victor Marrelli scored two goals. Single assists went to Mike McNamara, Chris Spilar, George Armstrong and Ian Kerr. Rutherford 6, Yale 4 Greg Frangakas was the top shooter for Rutherford with two goals and three assists. Dan Tasson had one goal and two assists. Greg Twinney and Rich Petrie each added a goal and an assist. Frank McKay scored the other goal. Jim Horan and Garry Hoxey both had two helpers while Larry Pevato had one. Yale's offence came from its defence, as rearguards Marty Madensky and Bruno Fracassi had two goals each with Madensky adding two assists. Rick Geiger had two assists with singles going to Tony Dinis, James Heenan and Mike Foley. Oct. 17 It was a case of the strong getting stronger in Oct. 17 play. The Oilers and Chiropractic Centre were still undefeated. Thanks to an 8-2 drubbing of Heart Lake, the Chiropractors ended the evening in first place. Jiffy Lube downed Yale 8-5 and sit one point behind the Bonebenders. In the other game, Fines Ford and Rutherford played to a 5-5 draw. Bolton Chiropractic 8, Heart Lake Insurance 2 Kyle Smith, Gary Moss and Rod Sinclair led the Chiropractic attack. Smith struck for two goals and two assists while Moss had four assists. Sinclair was the top shooter with a hat trick. Taccogna, Crossley and Stefan Pacula all had a goal and an assist. Dom D'Orazio had two helpers while team sponsor Shore had one. Marrelli and Mike McNamara scored for Heart Lake. Jim Dunbar had the only assist on the night for the Insurance boys. Jiffy Lube 8, Yale 5 Bret Smith was the top man for Jiffy Lube with three goals and an assist. Carlo Fantin and Freitag both scored once and notched two assists. Jack Gibson, Mark Perrin and Peter Coghill scored the other goals. Doherty and Pete McNamara had single assists. Fracassi scored twice and added an assist for Yale. Foley had a goal and an assist. Madensky and Dinis scored the other goals. Robert Masutti and Heenan both had two assists while John Pitsadiotis had one. Fines Ford 5, Rutherford 5 For the second game in a row, Fines Ford let a win slip away by coughing up the tying goal in the last 30 seconds when the opposition pulled the goaltender for an extra skater. Twinney tied the score for Rutherford with 24.2 seconds left in the game. Frangakas was the top scorer for Rutherford with two goals and two assists. Horan finished with a goal and an assist. Maurizo Giorgio scored the other goal. Tasson and Hoxey both had an assist. Pallotta and Curcio, who made his CSHL debut, scored two goals each. David scored the other goal. Jamie Hardman and Tony Calabro bagged two assists each while Sampson had one. Had they won the game, Fines would have moved into third place in the standings.
