Meanwhile Nov. 28 saw the under-manned Fines Ford Lincoln squad almost became the little engine that could. But they ran out of gas in the last four minutes of the game to surrender a 6-4 win to Bolton Chiropractic Centre. In other play, Heart Lake Insurance and Yale Industrial Trucks fought to a 5-5 draw while Rutherford Global Logistics blasted the Oilers 8-3. Bolton Chiropractic 6, Fines Ford 4 Fines Ford, struggling all season and in the CSHL basement, appeared headed for disaster. Six players called in with various excuses for not playing, from a hernia to a highly suspect claim of injury while bending over to pick up a pencil. The Motor Men took to the ice with just eight skaters and goaltender Vanni DiMarco, but caught the first-place Chiropractors by surprise with two goals on their first shift. Alas, a 4-2 third-period lead evaporated and Chiropractor team rep Nick Taccogna scored twice in the last four minutes to bag the win. Jim Kutchera also scored twice for the Bonebenders, with Dom D'Orazio getting a goal and an assist. Team sponsor Mike (Dr. Bend) had the other goal. Nick Pistilli had two assists with singles going to Bill Moyer, Ted Callighen and Gary Moss. Tony Curcio was once again the leader for Fines Ford with one goal and two assists. Jiffy Lube 10, Fines Ford 2 A long list of players fattened their statistics at the expense of Fines Ford. Pete McNamara led the way with three goals and two assists. Mike Lo Dico also had a hat trick and added one assist. Perrin scored twice and added an assist while Doherty had a goal and three assists. Coghill scored one goal and set up two. On the helpers list, Hughes had three, Freitag had two, and Carlo Fantin and Frank Cirone both had one. CSHL rookie Curcio continued to light the goal lamp, scoring both Fines goals. Nov. 7 The previous week saw the bottom two-thirds of the league standings get shaken up as the top two teams were taken to the woodshed for spankings. Rutherford made it two wins in a row over the league leaders as they downed first-place Bolton Chiropractic 5-3. That came one week after Rutherford defeated second-place Jiffy Lube. The Oilers remained in a funk, losing 7-4 to Heart Lake. Yale outlasted Fines Ford in a scoring derby, winning 10-7 to jump up to fourth place and drop Fines to the basement. Rutherford 5, Bolton Chiropractic 3 Rutherford spread the scoring around, as Frangakas, Gasparini and Hoxey each had a goal and an assist. Horan and Petrie scored the other goals. Single assists went to Frank McKay, Tarasco, Boyles, Tasson, Pevato and Twinney. Pacula, Pistilli and team sponsor Shore scored for the Bonebenders. Dinis scored one goal and added an assist. Brian Samuel scored the other goal. Schaefer and Collins both set up three goals while Fracassi and Castellucci each had two assists. Curcio almost singlehandedly carried Fines to a win, but could not overcome a leaky defensive game. Curcio scored six of Fines' seven goals. Peter Kuchar and Rogers provided the most offensive support, with four and three assists, respectively. Wight scored the other goal. Oct. 31 The evening saw the last undefeated team in the league taste its first loss. Rutherford edged the Oilers 5-4 to hand them their first defeat and push them out of first place. Bolton Chiropractic regained the top spot by shellacking Fines Ford 7-1. In the other game, Heart Lake and Yale played to a 2-2 tie. Rutherford 5, Jiffy Lube 4 Rutherford built a 5-1 lead early in the third period and then had to hang on for the win as Jiffy Lube came back with three goals. Tasson led the Rutherford shooters with two goals and an assist. Frangakas chipped in a goal and an assist. Petrie and Gasparini scored the other goals. Tarasco and Boyles both had two assists. Bret Smith, inspired by wearing his Hanson Brothers costume to mark Halloween, scored two goals for Jiffy Lube. Hughes added a goal and an assist while Cirone scored the other goal. Gazzolla and Perrin had single assists. Bolton Chiropractic 7, Fines Ford 1 The Motor Men hung close to the Bonebenders for two periods, as the latter held a 2-1 lead, but the wheels came off in the third. The Chiropractors scored five unanswered goals in the final frame to nail down the win. Taccogna and Kyle Smith powered the winners' scoring with a hat trick each. Taccogna added two assists to his three goals while Smith had one helper. Rod Sinclair scored the other goal. Callighen had two assists with singles going to goaltender Pat DiFrancesco, Kutchera, Pacula, Moyer, Dave Armstrong, Shore and Dave Smith. Rogers scored for Fines Ford on assists from Palumbo and Curcio. Heart Lake 2, Yale 2 Marrelli scored twice in the third period to erase a 2-0 Yale lead and give Heart Lake the draw.
