Off to the Races! Nominations officially open for 2026 Municipal Election![]() By Riley Murphy Local Journalism Initiative Reporter Friday, May 1, officially marked the beginning of nominations for the upcoming 2026 municipal elections in Caledon. Residents and community members looking to run for Caledon Council or school board trustee positions in the election have until 2 pm on August 21 to file their nomination papers. With the election taking place on Monday, October 26, 2026, Caledon voters will vote by paper ballot to elect the Mayor of the Town of Caledon, Ward and Regional Councillors, and School Board Trustees to serve during the 2026 to 2030 Council term of office. A candidate's campaign period officially begins when the Municipal Clerk has received their nomination. Nominations have already been rolling in since 9 a.m. on Friday. Ward 4 Candidate Heather French, Mayoral Candidate Christina Early, and School Board Trustee Candidate Paula Dametto-Giovannozzi secured the first time slots on opening day at 9 a.m. For the municipal election, Caledon voters will be able to vote for their Mayor, six Councillors, and two Regional Councillors. When it comes to School Board Trustees, there are positions open for the Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, and one each for the two French-language boards, which must be filed separately by the cities of Mississauga and Brampton. As of the morning of Wednesday, May 6, the current registered candidates for the 2026 municipal and school board elections are as follows; MAYOR Christina Early Jagdeep Sacha WARD 2 Hunar Kahlon Rakesh Madhok WARD 3 Stan Cameron Doug Maskell WARD 4 Heather French WARD 6 Cosimo Napoli REGIONAL COUNCILLOR – WARDS 1, 2 and 3 Dave Sheen Paula Dametto-Giovannozzi has filed for one of the School Board Trustee positions.
