But NobleToyz owner Derrick Noble loves the gremlin he has in his store. He also loves the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, the Walking Dead and Kill Bill memorabilia, and the countless other items that fill his store at its new location at 266 Queen St. Moving stuff that goes back decades has been a labour of love for Noble, with the emphasis on labour. “The last two weeks have been sleep-deprived,” he said with a laugh, adding his diet has been questionable, at best. “I've been supporting a lot of the local food places lately. I haven't had a home-cooked meal in just over two weeks.” Not that he's complaining. With more room for his collection and a higher-profile location, the hard work is already paying off. In fact, a new customer came into the store simply because she saw it there, a happy occurrence that likely wouldn't have happened in his old digs on Healey Drive. Still, there's much to be done. “I have a truck and it's already been multiple truckloads of stuff. The stockroom at my old place isn't even empty yet. It's amazing how much stuff I had crammed into that space. The good news now is we have the space to keep expanding and bringing in the cool things. Our first day here, we've already had a new order come in.” It's hard to predict what the next customer might want, but he tries to listen to each one to learn what's important to them. “Funko Pops have been hot since I opened my store (two years ago). They've been hot for years so we try to keep some of the most current Funko Pops,” he said. Squishies and Slimes are also on the must-have list for some. Vintage and retro items appeal to many people as well. There's still that kid in the adults who frequent the store. “Some of the new items I've brought in today have that vintage look like these Flexi-Robots and Slinkys and we do vintage video games and vintage action figures will be here soon. I try to keep current stuff and retro and everything.” Noble has always been a fan boy, which makes his long days tiring, but ultimately enjoyable. It helps that he and his customers speak the same language. “It's something I've always I've done on the side. I was always a part-time person who bought and sold and did toy shows, vendor shows, and I'm a collector too. I've always had a passion for it and I love interacting with people and I love meeting the people in my community and finding the items they're after.” Some have specific needs, while others buy what catches their eye. “You have your pop collectors, you have your nostalgia collectors, you have people into Teenage Nutant Ninja Turtles or Game of Thrones. So you have specific collectors and you have general collectors. Me, I'm a general collector. I like vintage vinyl and I like older retro video games and horror figures.” Look for an official grand opening to happen in September. --------------------------------------------------- Images: --------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Post date: 2018-07-19 11:20:45 Post date GMT: 2018-07-19 15:20:45 Post modified date: 2018-07-19 11:20:45 Post modified date GMT: 2018-07-19 15:20:45 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Export of Post and Page as text file has been powered by [ Universal Post Manager ] plugin from www.gconverters.com
