Monday morning's frigid temperatures made things difficult for Caledon firefighters, but they were able to bring this house fire on King Street in Sandhill under control. Caledon Fire and Emergency Services report the 9-1-1 call came in a couple of minutes before 5 a.m. While crews from the Caledon East station were on their way, they were informed that flames could be seen coming through the roof. It was also not clear if anyone was in the house. Upon arrival, the firefighters started an offensive action involving search and rescue, and also set up a rural shuttle operation. As things got worse in the house, crews were forced to withdraw and start a defensive fire attack, utilizing several large handlines to control the fire. The blaze was brought under control at about 8:40 a.m. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage has been estimated at $400,000. Crews from the fire stations in Caledon East, Inglewood, Cheltenham, Bolton and Valleywood were involved in fighting this fire, along with Caledon OPP, Hydro One and Peel EMS.
