On November 17, the Town of Caledon announced it had appointed Dave Pelayo as its new fire chief. Pelayo, who is currently Caledon's Deputy Fire Chief of Fire Prevention and Training, will take over from current chief Dave Forfar on December 18. The Town said Pelayo is a well-respected member of the Caledon Fire and Emergency Services team who has dedicated his career to the betterment of others for over 20 years. Pelayo started his career with Brampton Fire, later moving to Caledon and joining the Town's fire department. He began as a volunteer firefighter at Station 302 in Bolton and then became a full-time firefighter. He rose through the ranks in Brampton and Caledon, serving in various leadership roles throughout his career.  In a media release, Caledon's Chief Administrative Officer Nathan Hyde said he's delighted to have Pelayo accept the role of fire chief. “His transition into this new role reflects our commitment to nurturing and promoting talent,” said Hyde. “The recruitment for the fire chief role was widespread, with top-quality candidates applying from across Canada. Mr. Pelayo stood out among these candidates, and we're excited for him to take over as fire chief in the coming weeks.” Pelayo will be working with Forfar until he retires to ensure a seamless transition between chiefs.
