New era for local fire departmentWritten By MARK PAVILONS A new era of effective, life-saving care was ushered in with the official opening Wednesday of Bolton's Roy B. Clarkson Firehall Station 302. The dual-use facility houses Caledon firefighters and Peel paramedics, available 24/7 to serve the needs of the community. Dignitaries and representatives of neighbouring fire services attended the ceremony and unveiling of the sign. The building stands as a testament to those who give so much in the service of their community. Clarkson was a 33-year veteran of the department in Caledon and died while fighting a house fire in February of 1980. There is no better tribute to a man who epitomizes the sentiment, “all give some, some give all.” It was fitting during Fire Prevention Week to open a new station and honour those who serve. Carey Herd, Caledon's acting CAO, said this state-of-the-art, 18,000-square-foot facility houses bays, quarters, training space and offices. Caledon Fire Chief Darryl Bailey said a huge team effort was required to undertake a project of this magnitude. He lauded the efforts of Caledon council and staff, noting this station is a very important step in providing high standards of service. Peter Dundas, Peel's Chief Paramedic, said he's grateful with the relationship between Caledon Fire and Peel Paramedics. Station 302 will provide effective response and is strategically located to serve the community. |
