Nearly 50 tickets issued during parking safety blitz in Southfields

The Town of Caledon recently took proactive steps to address parking issues in one of its villages.

On October 9 and 10, town municipal law enforcement staff went to Southfields Village for a parking safety blitz. They patrolled for, and proactively addressed, parking-related violations.

Municipal law enforcement staff also addressed parking and stopping contraventions in school areas.

In an emailed statement, Caledon's Director of Municipal Law Enforcement Jagdeep (Jack) Hunjan said Caledon is committed to improving compliance with parking regulations to enhance safety for pedestrians and motorists.

“Southfields Village in particular is experiencing an increase in on-street parking and parked vehicles overhanging sidewalks and roadways,” said Hunjan. “The Town continues to prioritize safe and accessible streets and thanks the community for its ongoing cooperation.”

Town staff said nearly 50 tickets were issued during the recent parking safety blitz, with common offences including: parking in a signed no-park zone; parking or stopping too far from the curb; parking facing the wrong way; stopping over sidewalks, footpaths and crosswalks; parking within three metres of a fire hydrant; and parking on a boulevard.

Fines issued during the recent parking safety blitz ranged from $45 to $300.

A Town of Caledon news release issued prior to the blitz stated that its goal was to address parking violations and assist with the safe and orderly flow of traffic within the Southfields Community.

Caledon is currently working on a parking strategy study for Southfields Village.
