NDBL All-Stars put on performance at Mansfield

Sunny and warm weather graced the North Dufferin Baseball League All-Star Game Saturday at Mansfield Community Park and hosted by the Mansfield Cubs.
The annual contest included a senior game with the East Division Stars defeating the West Division 5-3 and a Junior game which ended in a 2-2 tie for the Reds and Blues.
The 50th senior all-star game got underway at 1 p.m. and remained scoreless until the fourth inning, when the East Division scored a run. In the fifth inning, the West Division answered back and scored two runs. The East scored again in the eighth with the West doing the same to go up 3-2.
In the ninth inning, the West Stars looked to have the game in hand until a third out call was appealed and overturned, continuing the game. Three runs for the East Stars crossed the plate. The West, as home team, was unable to answer in the bottom of the inning and went down in defeat by a score of 5-3.
Most Valuable Players selected for the game were Andrew Bukovec of the Aurora Jays on the winning side and for the West Division Logan Wallace from Mansfield. Bukovec pitched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits, one walk, while striking out five. Wallace went one for two at the plate and hit a two-run homer.
Following the senior game, the players of the 21st junior all-star game took to the field. The nine inning contest was structured to have a combination of players from each of the eight junior clubs on both all-star teams pitting teammate against teammate and adding an interesting flare to the game.
The Blues started the scoring with one run in the first frame. The Reds scored their first run in the fifth inning to tie. In the seventh, the Blues again scored to go up, but failed to hold onto the win when the Reds plated a run in the ninth frame. The game ended in a 2-2 tie.
MVP honours went to Nathan Dix of Orillia for the Blues, batting 3 for 4 with two doubles and scoring once. Devon Wu of Aurora was named MVP for the Reds. Wu pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out six batters.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
