Mulligans Fore Matthew was another successBy Bill Rea There were probably lots of mulligans Friday at Caledon Golf and Country Club near Inglewood, and all for a good cause. It was time for the fifth annual Mulligans for Matthew, in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and it raised more than $30,000 for the cause. “Mulligan” is a golf term, which basically means another chance. Matthew refers to Caledon East resident Matthew Maramier. Not long after his birth in August 2012, Matthew was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). His parents, Adam and Gillian decided to get pro-active, and set up the annual tournament. Mrs. Maramier reported there were 148 golfers who took to the course Friday. The one noteable absentee was Matthew himself, but he was at school, and was going to be on hand for the dinner that followed. The $30,000 raised this year put the total for the five years to more than $138,000, which goes to fund research to combat this deadly disease. The Orangeville branch of Scotiabank was the event sponsor and donated $5,000. Other major sponsors were the Kinsmen Club of Bolton, Your Greenhomes Real Estate and Trish Mills — Century21 Millennium Inc. “You guys do a great job every year,” she told the golfers as they headed out. |
