Mirror Visions Ensemble to play in Caledon East on November 12By Zachary Roman An ensemble that creatively explores the relationship between music and text will soon be coming to play in Caledon. At 7:30 p.m. on November 12, Mirror Visions Ensemble will come to play in the St. James Anglican Church concert room at 6025 Old Church Road. Caledon Chamber Concerts' Janice Reed explained Mirror Visions Ensemble (MVE) was founded from the desire to explore how music and text relate, initially by setting the same text to music by different composers. “The group's passion for storytelling has produced thematic concerts on surprising subjects, based on scholarly research and laced with humor,” wrote Reed. “Featuring soprano, tenor, baritone and piano, MVE's programs take audiences on an imaginative journey through song, showcasing both well-known and oft-neglected pieces, set to texts by poets and historical figures.” The members of MVE are tenor Scott Murphree, mezzo-soprano Abi Levis, baritone Mischa Bouvier, and pianist Grant Wenaus. They'll be performing a program called Journeys, where they play songs by Barber, Berlioz, Blangini, Duparc, Haydn, Poulenc, Hugo Wolf and more. The poetry of Baudelaire, Joyce and Metastasio is among the texts that will be featured. Tickets to the show for adults are $40 and can be purchased online at caledonchamberconcerts.com or by calling 905-880-2445. Children 16 years old or younger can come to the show for free, and free refreshments will be served at the show's intermission. |
