Local business officials and council got together for networking and a fantastic lunch served by the Royal Ambassador team. In total, there were more than 200 people in attendance Mayor Thompson kicked off proceedings with a quick message highlighting the news that broke earlier that day that the provincial government would not be forcing amalgamation on any municipality, following a months long review - something that seemed to go over well amongst those in attendance. Dufferin-Caledon MP elect Kyle Seeback and Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones were in attendance, with Jones taking a moment to address the crowd and speak of the importance of building the economy in our region.   “If there is one thing that I have learned in my ten plus years as your MPP, it's that governments do not create jobs. We need to put the policies and procedures in effect that are going to enable our job creators to continue to thrive and grow in Caledon, and in Dufferin as well,” says Jones.  The guest speaker for luncheon was, Bruce Firestone, founder of the Ottawa Senators and their home arena, the Canadian Tire Centre. He provided a presentation about various ways to economically build our community.   According to Firestone's website, “My main message is that it doesn't take many entrepreneurs to change a community. I think it's extremely important for cities, towns, villages, states, provinces, you name it to retain their young people and their entrepreneurs in particular,” says Firestone.  The Ottawa Senators Founder provided Caledon with an in depth and thorough presentation on the needs, wants, coulds and shoulds on how  Caledon can go about grow ingas a community through entrepreneurship and expanding our horizons. Speaking to the Citizen following the event, Mayor Thompson said he was enlightened by Firestone's rousing presentation, noting that more can always be done to improve the economic health of a community.  “I see tremendous value in bringing together our business community and was very pleased with the turnout.  My take away message from our keynote speaker is that as municipalities, we need to think outside the box more,” Thompson said.
