Mayfield rugby players touring Ireland for March breakBy Bill Rea A group of rugby players from Mayfield Secondary School are currently touring Ireland. The 47 students and their coaches departed last Thursday (March 10), and are due to return home this coming Sunday. These trips have been going on every other year for some time, according to Kirk Robertson, one of the coaches. “This is our 20th anniversary,” he said, adding this is the third time they have gone to Ireland. There have been previous trips to England, Scotland and Wales. The tour was to start in Dublin, proceeding to Kilkenny, Cork, Killarney, Dingle Peninsula and Galway. “It's a hefty schedule,” he said. He added Munster, one of the professional rugby clubs in Ireland, will be hosting them for a two-hour training session. Scotiabank at Bramalea and Mayfield Roads helped provide some of the funding for the trip. The school also hosted Ruck and Roll March 4 as a fundraiser for the trip. |
