Mayfield Recreation Complex to remain closed until end of October

The Mayfield Recreation Complex pool and main lobby area has been undergoing renovations that are taking longer than expected.
The facility is currently closed to the public to undergo a scheduled roof and HVAC system replacement, and the closure is estimated to be extended until the end of October.
In addition to the original roof and HVAC repairs, the Town has reported the contractor on the project had identified that the internal steel structure is corroded and in need of repair to maintain the integrity of the building and the safety of the employees and patrons.
A structural engineer completed an emergency report outlining recommendations for remediation, the expected timeframe for completion and the associated costs, which was then reviewed by a second engineer who concurred with the findings. A staff report seeking direction to complete the work was brought forward and approved by Town council Tuesday.
The arena at the complex will be open evenings and weekends for ice and room rentals.
Fall general programs will begin Sept. 22, and fall aquatic programs are anticipated to begin Oct. 25. Staff will contact Aquatic Program participants to relay new start date information.
During this time, registrations for programs can be completed by going online at www.caledon.ca/recreation or by calling 905-843-2216. In-person registrations will not be an option at the complex until Sept. 22, but will be available at Caledon Community Complex and the Caledon Centre for Recreation and Wellness.
For additional information, contact Recreation Supervisor Kim Walton at 905-843-2216.
Registered users of the pool at Mayfield are being notified of the new timeframe for completion and are being accommodated in existing Town facilities. There have been some delays or changes to programs and the Town thanks the patrons for their patience while the repairs to the pool are being completed.
The Mayfield Recreation Complex was built in 1972, consisting of a single pad arena, a 25-metre pool, meeting room and main lobby.
Over the past number of years, the roof of the facility has been leaking excessively, to the point of requiring full replacement.
