Many of the candidates had ideas that are worth considering, regardless of whose platform they arrived on. For example, Mark Radford made an excellent point about the fact that our Regional tax dollars are going toward the 3-1-1 service, but Caledon isn't taking advantage of it. We should take a good look at that as well as what else we may be paying for but not getting. One thing I personally was looking forward to doing was making sure that no place within Caledon would continue to be long distance to another place in Caledon. Believe it or not, this is possible, but it requires the Town of Caledon to write a letter to Bell Canada and to Rogers Telecommunications and put forward a business case relating to the economic impact of this separation on the community. This is exactly why it isn't long distance from Cheltenham to Toronto but it is from Cheltenham to Bolton. Needless to say, it isn't long distance from Alton to Orangeville but it is from there to SouthFields. It's just another hurdle that keeps our town divided. It's pretty hard to have a sense of cohesiveness and town pride when our arts and culture, our economic centres, our Town Hall and all of our villages and hamlets can't call each other without dialing “1” and paying extra. These are just a couple of things that I hope won't fall through the cracks as we move forward. So once again, congratulations to our newly elected council. I'm sure I speak for many in saying that I am looking forward to seeing great things over the next four years.
