Lots of enthusiasm as Crewson opens Bolton office

Liberals seem to be in an upbeat mood as the federal election campaign progresses, and that was in evidence Sunday in Bolton.
Ed Crewson, Liberal candidate in Dufferin-Caledon, welcomed Ontario Transportation Minister (and Vaughan MPP) Steven Del Duca to the opening of his Bolton campaign office.
Del Duca stressed Crewson's political experience, and the fact he understands the importance of partnership between the various levels of government. He commented that at the end of the day, people don't care which level gets things done, or even which party they represent.
“People fundamentally want us to produce positive results,” he declared.
Del Duca pointed to the commitment from Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau to invest another $60 billion over 10 years toward infrastructure, adding the Province will be contributing $31.5 billion over 10 years to transportation infrastructure. That's going to include the proposed extensions to Highway 427. The Minister said shovels should be in the ground in either late 2016 or 2017.
He also commented on the plans of NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair in invest $1.6 billion in transit over 20 years, commenting his young daughter will be close to 30 before she sees any benefit from that.
“You can't have a Tommy Douglas country with a Stephen Harper budget,” he remarked.
Del Duca also urged people to get out and support Crewson's campaign.
“This is the year,” he declared. “This is the election we watch the riding of Dufferin-Caledon turn red.”
“I'm running because I care about the people of Dufferin-Caledon and I want to make a difference in their lives,” Crewson told his supporters.
He said he cares about security, veterans, young people, etc.
Crewson added people watch the Harper Conservatives waste money on partisan ads and Senate corruption, commenting that Canadians deserve better.
He also charged the Conservatives have been attacking democracy, not understanding the need for accountability and transparency. All that matters to them is cutting taxes for the most well-off and deceiving people. They are also cutting services that build better communities.
Crewson recalled being eight-years-old with a terminally ill father who couldn't pay his medical bills. He added he knows the benefit of post-secondary education because he went to school when the federal and provincial governments paid 80 per cent of the cost.
He said the social safety net was there when he needed it, adding the system gave him support, “The system the Harper government seems so determined to destroy.”
